Questions about warehouse picking lists
What columns belong on a warehouse picking list?
Include the order, sequence, bin, SKU, item, lot or serial rule, requested quantity, picked quantity and shortage reason. Add package or staging references when the same sheet continues into packing.
Should a picking list show available stock?
It can show a point-in-time quantity, but label the source and time. A printed or downloaded list cannot guarantee that another task has not allocated or moved the stock.
How should partial picks be recorded?
Keep requested and picked quantities separately and require a reason for the difference. The downstream decision should determine whether to search another bin, substitute, part-ship or backorder.
When should a picking sheet become an App?
Move to connected records when several pickers share work, priorities change, short picks need decisions, lot or serial traceability matters, or packing and dispatch must update immediately.
