Can I manage BOMs in a spreadsheet for free?

Is open source the best free route?
It can be when your team can operate and maintain the system and needs the broader manufacturing scope. It is not automatically simpler or cheaper than a hosted free plan.
What happens when the free plan is outgrown?
Before importing product data, understand export, storage, automation and user limits. Test whether identifiers and revision history can move cleanly, and budget for the paid plan or system setup that can support the live process.
